Pre-Prosthetic Surgery
Preparation of the Mouth Before Dentures
Pre-prosthetic surgery is a type of oral surgery that is performed prior to the placement of complete or partial dentures. It is done to ensure that dentures fit properly and can be worn comfortably. Pre-prosthetic surgery restores oral function and facial form. It is the surgical modification of the alveolar process (tooth-bearing segment of the jaw) and its surrounding structures. The ultimate goal of pre-prosthetic surgery is to prepare the mouth to receive a dental prosthesis by redesigning and smoothing over bony edges and soft tissues.
