What is an Oral Surgeon?
Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are surgically trained in a hospital-based residency program for a minimum of 4 years. They train in internal medicine, general surgery, and anesthesiology. The time is also spent in otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat), emergency medicine, plastic surgery and other specialities. Their training focuses on the bone, skin, and muscles of the face, mouth, and jaw. Oral and facial surgeons are qualified to diagnose and treat functional and aesthetic conditions in these areas.
